History & Tradition

Since it was built in 1864, the Grand Hôtel Uriage in Uriage-les-Bains has perpetuated the tradition of hospitality, well-being, gastronomy and spa treatments.

The virtues of Uriage spa water have been known since Roman times. In the 19th century, people used to come to the spa town of Uriage to take its waters. It was at that period, in the reign of Napoleon III, that the Grand Hôtel Uriage was built.

Over the past decades, the hotel has undergone several renovation projects, however, the authentic character of the building has been preserved and modern facilities have been added in order to improve its comfort.

The history of the hotel has also been forged by its many famous guests. Their personalities have left a lasting mark on the hotel, and the rooms and suites bear the names of these illustrious visitors.

And,Gault Millau's decision to award 4 toques for his work at Uriage is no more surprising. For this great master, spirit, inventiveness and passion go hand in hand with high standard professional values and, behind the glamour of colourful, attractive and sometimes amusing dishes, irrefutable technical precision. In the stylish interior of this venerable hotel, the very first dishes of vegetables, colours, tastes, create a fireworks displaywhich is followed by scampi, black radish and lovage, fera from Lake Geneva with bergamot, fennel and maple syrup, or the superb "poached-roasted" pigeon. The first menu which reflects the hotel’s quality is available at €154 for a truly delicious treat, accompanied by high quality service and a gem of a wine list, some of the products in which are relatively accessible in comparison to the market value.
